Hi, I’m Shagun.

“Eyes are the windows to the soul.” The proverbial saying rings true. Eyes give a glimpse of our inner world – our feelings, thoughts, and views of the universe.

My fascination materialized at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Delhi where I studied the influence of ancient Indian art on culture, textiles, apparel, and fashion. Inspired, I created a line of clothing based on the 2,500-year-old folk art of Madhubani paintings, known for big, bold, beautiful eyes. I fell in love immediately.

The key is to start at the source: female folk artists living in remote Indian villages who create authentic artwork. Stunning, vibrant, mesmerizing – the world needed to see these masterpieces. Naytra Couture transfers exclusive paintings onto 100% pure silk by using the most environmentally friendly techniques possible. Our tunics are handcrafted, each a one-of-a-kind wearable piece of art that is a truly unique fashion statement.

A Greater Vision

Naytra’s mission runs deeper than creating unique garments: I want the blind to see. 253 million people are visually impaired and nearly 36 millions are totally blind. My heart yearns for the blind to experience the riot of color, fashion and art that so blesses us every day.

A daunting task, I know, but we can actually make it happen. Approximately 217 million visually impaired people (about 86%) suffer from curable blindness.

Hence the birth – and vision – of Naytra (Hindi & Sanskrit for eyes; pronounced “neh-trah”).

Together, we can work to cure blindness. With every Naytra purchase, you are giving someone the gift of eyesight. This is our gift to the world.

Thank you for supporting local artisans, championing a sustainable product and providing the gift of eyesight.

Fine Art Makes Fascinating Fashion

Madhubani is a colorful art that marries Paul Gaugain’s riot of color with George Seuret’s technical pointillism.

Madhubani means ” a forest of honey” in Hindi. My passion for this art form has met my fascination with fashion.

Together with my small business team and female artisans, Naytra is turning incredible paintings into one-of-a-kind wearable art pieces and promoting slow fashion.

We sincerely hope, that these beautiful statement pieces with remain in your closet for times to come and will be passed down to future generations.

Protecting People & Planet

In everything we do, we aim to make the world a better, more vibrant place. We seek to protect our planet and all who call it home by:

  • Raising money to eliminate curable blindness in partnership with Seva Foundation.
  • Practicing eco-friendly and environmentally sustainable high-end fashion.
  • Using 100% natural, sustainable and organic silks. Following a strict “no plastic” policy.

It’s not the easy way, but we believe it’s the right way. We hope you join us in our pursuit of purpose-driven luxury.
